You can't go wrong with a diet full of whole foods like grains and legumes for lowering cholesterol. You eat like the po' folks in the rest of the world, in compassionate solidarity, and enjoy delicious ethnic meals. It's cheap. You can make big batches and freeze homemade convenience foods.

My partner is slim, but a year and a half ago when he was eating lots of meat and fish lots of meat his doctor found his cholesterol was high enough that he wanted to put him on Lipitor. For the past year he's been living my 10in10diet with me and now his cholesterol is normal. Fiber is the broom of the system and the best way to get it is in just' plain food. No Lipitor for him. Yay!

This is, of course, merely one anecdote, so do your homework. But if you reeeeally don't want to be on the most profitable pharmaceutical on earth, try eating beans and whole grains! All that fiber in cabbage soup is great! Oatmeal every day is great! Beans and lentils – wonderful!
