This is where I put notes from readers who have trouble with some of the foods in this diet.

I'm still refining my gluten-free flour mix. So far the quick breads I've made with a combo of rice, chick pea, tapioca, and light buckwheat flours, and potato starch get stale quickly.

The book I recommend below was my bible when my kids were little and I suspected food sensitivities were causing trouble. My pediatric allergist recommended Dr. Crook's book and he said, "Be your own doctor" regarding this particular area of their well-being, since I was with them all day and I was feeding them.

I have had some trouble digesting oatmeal.

"I use buckwheat instead, pretty much the same as you handle oatmeal. It may be that the oatmeal I have tried has been contaminated by wheat (to which I am allergic), or I may be allergic to oats. Anyway, it is a minor obstacle and buckwheat is nutritious and I can grow it in my own yard (need a mill, though, if I want to harvest and eat what I grow)."

Meat/dairy industry campaign to discredit vegetarian diets

Dr. Colin T. Campbell's book, The China Study has been attacked by non-scientist members of the Weston A. Price Foundation. Dr. Campbell wrote a thoughtful response here.

Legume Allergy

Excerpt:
"
First, I must ask whether your son was ever tested for each legume, or just one? All nuts, or just a few, or one? Unfortunately, all too often, allergists will determine that a child is allergic to one sort oflegume or nut, and then advise that he or she avoid ALL legumes and/or nuts. But many forward-thinking allergists are realizing the health benefits of legumes and nuts, and are not making such blanket recommendations as much as they used to. The good news is, it is extremely rare that a person is allergic to ALL legumes and ALL nuts. Has he ever been tested for seeds? For beans like chick peas? These foods are extremely health-supporting, and avoiding them may be unnecessary. Of course, the trick is to discover what your son can and cannot tolerate."
